How an endoscopic brow lift is performed
The skin on your forehead loses its ability to stretch as you get older. The muscles of your forehead form groove in the skin that turn into wrinkles, and these wrinkles get more noticeable as the skin sags. In addition to being pulled downward by gravity, the skin tends to migrate to the center of the brow. So a brow lift isn’t just a matter of lifting the skin straight up — the skin has to be moved back into place in just the right way.
A device called an endoscope, equipped with a tiny light and a miniaturized camera, can be inserted under the skin of the forehead through an incision, allowing the surgeon to see precisely how muscles and sinews are attached to the skin and bone of the patient’s forehead and develop a plan for the surgery. This can be combined with fillers and laser treatments, or with face lifts and eyelid surgery. And if the skin of the brow has sagged into the space of the upper eyelid, a brow lift can restore some of the appearance of youth to the eyes. Slightly different procedures can be used for men and women to preserve the masculinity or femininity of the face, if the patient wishes.
After the brow lift
Technically, healing will take several months, but you should at least appear fully recovered within two weeks or so. You may need pain medication for the first couple of days. Don’t use aspirin or Ibuprofen for this. The swelling should start around the second day, diminish by the end of the first week and be gone by the end of the second week. It’s also about the two-week point that any sutures or staples should come out. Until then, try to sleep with your head elevated in order to reduce the swelling, and avoid any strenuous activity.
