Teen rhinoplasty surgery
Each year thousands of people undergo rhinoplasty or surgery of the nose. Teens request rhinoplasty surgery more than any other facial plastic surgery procedure. They may want the procedures for a number of reasons, including changing the shape or size of their nose, balancing their facial features or repairing a breathing or respiratory problem. Rhinoplasty may be performed to cure or alleviate breathing problems, correct deformities from injury or birth or to support a drooping, aging nose. Dr. M. Sean Freeman, Charlotte NC’s best facial plastic surgeon is an expert in performing teen rhinoplasty surgery. Dr. Freeman will meet with both the teen and his family for an initial consultation and discuss the details of the procedure. Dr. Freeman does not recommend teen rhinoplasty surgery until the nose is fully formed, typically around age 14 to 15 for women and age 16 to 18 for men.
It is important for anyone considering rhinoplasty, but especially those who are interested in teen rhinoplasty surgery to consult with a doctor who specializes in both facial plastic surgery and in nasal airway function. Dr. Freeman is double board-certified in both facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and also in Otolaryngology, which is the specialty of head and neck surgery. This makes Dr. Freeman uniquely qualified to perform rhinoplasty surgery, including teen rhinoplasty surgery.
Desired outcomes
Rhinoplasty surgery refines the shape of the nose, bringing it into balance with the other facial features. The nose is the most prominent feature on our faces, so even a slight modification can result in significant improvement to the appearance. This is especially important with teen rhinoplasty surgery since many young people turn to this procedure to help improve their self-confidence as they improve their appearance. It is important to remember that teen rhinoplasty surgery will probably not result in the perfect profile or improve your personal life. Rhinoplasty patients, especially younger teen patients should always have clear, realistic goals and a clear understanding of just what is possible with teen rhinoplasty surgery.
Pre-op consultation
Dr. Freeman will meet with both the teen and their parents before any teen rhinoplasty procedure. During this meeting, Dr. Freeman will discuss the details of the procedure and evaluate the teen for surgery. Dr. Freeman will perform the teen rhinoplasty in his state-of-the-art operating suite at his Charlotte NC clinic. This is an outpatient surgery and normally does not require an overnight stay.
The procedure
During the teen rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Freeman will make a small incision within the nose. This allows Dr. Freeman access and visibility into the internal structure. He will lift the skin and then remove or rearrange the cartilage and the bone as necessary. The skin is then redraped and sutured. Most of Dr. Freeman’s patients do not need nasal packing and will see most of the swelling and bruising disappear within ten days.
