SOOF lift for a younger look

An alternative to open lower lid surgery

SOOF lift blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can be done to alleviate medical problems associated with droopy eyelids. But it’s usually performed to make the eyes look younger by removing wrinkles, eye bags and other signs of age, and is often performed along with other procedures. Even if you’re having it done for medical reasons, chances are you’ll still want to look good when it’s over. You should know that there are different procedures for the upper and lower eyelids.

The old procedure for the lower lid is called an open lower lid blepharoplasty, in which the surgeon cuts under the eyelashes of the lower lid and removes the small deposit of fat called the suborbicularis oculi fat. The trouble is that the missing deposit of fat creates a hollow look in the lower eyelid and a tear trough. Sometimes it’s replaced by other fat, but if the new fat is too heavy it can make the lower lid pull away from the eyeball, requiring more surgery right away. The best cosmetic surgeon in Charlotte came up with a better approach. This is the SOOF lift blepharoplasty, in which the surgeon lifts the suborbicularis oculi fat back into place and tightens the fascial layer to hold it there.

If you need a SOOF lift blepharoplasty

If you want your lower eyelids to look younger, the first thing to do is go over your medical history with your surgeon, as well as get an eye exam, to see if there’s any reason you shouldn’t undergo a blepharoplasty. As with any cosmetic surgery (and most surgeries in general) if you smoke, you should stop several weeks before the operation. Don’t take any aspirin, ibuprofen or anything else that could increase bleeding. Since you’ll be under general anesthetic, you’ll need someone to drive you home after the surgery.

Recovery time varies from person to person, but you should expect it to last several weeks. There may be some bruising, puffiness and sensitivity to light. Don’t treat pain with aspirin or ibuprofen, and don’t wear contact lenses. Sleep with your head elevated, and try not to rub your eyes. Wear dark glasses if you have to go outside.
