Our facelift specialist in Charlotte NC: are you a good candidate?

Facelift specialist wants you to know if you are a candidate for this procedure

Our facelift specialist says that you will need to understand the risks involved with the procedure, have reasonable expectations, and be in good health in order to be a good candidate for a facelift.

If you suffer from serious health problems such as a bleeding disorder, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, or depression, you might not be a good candidate. If you drink too much alcohol or you’re a smoker and if you are obese, you may not be a good candidate.

Before your surgery, the surgeon might ask for you to make some lifestyle changes. For example, if you smoke, you may be asked to stop for approximately two to four weeks before and after your procedure. This will give your body a chance to properly heal from the procedure. Also, you should avoid any second-hand smoke before and after your procedure if you are not a smoker.

You and your doctor should have an in-depth discussion before your surgery about your lifestyle, including smoking, drinking, and exercise, your health, any supplements or medications that you’re taking, and any conditions that you have. This will help your surgeon determine whether or not surgery is a good option.

Also, let your doctor know about everything that you are taking, this includes any herbal products or vitamins that do not need a prescription. This is because some of these products may interfere with other medications that are being used during surgery and can also affect your risk of bleeding.

Physical signs of being a good candidate

Sagging jowls

This may not come as a surprise to many people when your skin along the jawline droops is a substantial sign that a facelift will be ideal for you. For most facelift patients, the loose, hanging skin that goes along the bottom of your jawline is one of their top complaints and it is corrected during facelift surgery.

Prominent neckbands

Surgery can be recommended for anyone that can clearly see the thick bands, called the platysma muscle, running up and down their necks are starting to drastically hang down. A loss in the sharpness between your neck and jaw as well as being able to see the platysmas muscles as one or two separate bands is a good sign that a facelift could be a great benefit.

Fillers are not working well anymore

You might need to take your anti-aging routine to another level if other methods that you are using, such as an injectable, just aren’t cutting it anymore when it comes to giving you a youthful appearance. If you find yourself needing to visit your surgeon multiple times for an injection every six months in order to keep your desired effect, or if you have already tried other treatments that were noninvasive and they did not work for you, you may need to consider scheduling a consultation with your surgeon.
