Nose job surgery in Charlotte NC: what should you know about a rhinoplasty

Nose job surgery: what do you need to know?

A nose job surgery procedure may be for you if you have been feeling unhappy about the appearance of your nose for some time, or maybe you are having a hard time breathing, no matter the reason, a nose job procedure, or rhinoplasty, may be the right option for you.

Many things about your nose can be changed through rhinoplasty, including the width of your nose at the bridge, the nose profile, and the position and size of the nostrils. The procedure can also reshape the tip of the nose to improve the appearance of wide, large, or upturned nostrils and correct the asymmetry of the nose. Rhinoplasty can even be an option for patients who have been injured during a sport or car accident and can be considered for certain birth defects.

What is a rhinoplasty?

A nose job surgery, also known as a rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that will alter the outer shape of the nose. Your surgeon can also perform a septoplasty during the surgery to straighten the inner wall of the nose that separates the left side of the nose from the right. So, a nose job surgery can achieve two goals, the alteration of the outer shape of the nose and to aid in breathing better through the nose.

Choices of rhinoplasty procedure

When it comes to rhinoplasty procedures, there are two options that your surgeon can perform:

  • Open rhinoplasty: This option is where your surgeon will place the surgery incisions on the outside of your nose. To have access to the bones and cartilage in the nose, the surgeon will enter the nose through your nostrils. After the procedure, there may be some scars that will be visible since the incisions are made on the outside.

  • Closed rhinoplasty: This technique involves the creation of necessary incisions inside of your nose. This option will mean that you will not see any scars on the outside of your nose. However, using this technique will mean that your surgeon can not view the inner portion of your nose as they would during an open procedure.

The final desired result of the procedure will determine how long it will take your surgeon to perform the surgery on your nose’s bone and cartilage. Typically, a nose job surgery can take approximately three to four hours. Afterward, a splint will be placed on your nose for about a week. You will then be able to get a better view of your new appearance when the splint is removed.

Is a nose job surgery in Charlotte NC just for looks?

A nose job surgery is typically requested by the majority of patients for aesthetic reasons, as we have learned, some patients will have a nasal obstruction that requires a rhinoplasty procedure for functional purposes. In this case, an examination will be performed to assess the nature of the circumstances to determine what technique will be used.
