Minitucks and other specialized services

Specialized cosmetic procedures

A good facial plastic surgeon should offer a number of specialized treatments, both surgical and nonsurgical. One such is laser tattoo removal. By focusing light on the tattoo that will be specifically absorbed by the ink, causing the ink particles to break up and be gradually flushed into the bloodstream, a facial plastic surgeon can use a laser to remove the tattoo without harming the skin. Nevus flammeus, or the port wine stain, can also be treated using a series of pulsed dye laser treatments, provided the patient doesn’t have a tan at the time. Specialized surgical procedures include SOOF lift blepharoplasty, a form of lower eyelid surgery, the lip lift and the deep plane minituck.

The deep plane minituck

The difference between a minituck and a regular facelift is that a regular facelift is given to patients with a lot of sagging skin under the jaw, whereas those who just have a little sagging around the midface area can make do with a minituck. In a deep plane minituck, the surgeon makes an incision around the ear, then lifts the connective tissue under the skin of the cheeks and releases the ligaments to perform a deep plane lift on the lines of the jaw, jowl and mouth. The surgeon might also lift the malar pad, the fatty tissue under the skin of the upper cheek. This is a procedure that lets the face look naturally younger rather than stretched or unnatural.

After the procedure, it should be possible for the patient to return to normal activity after 10 to 14 days, provided he or she follows the surgeon’s advice. It may take several weeks for the swelling to subside. Deep plane facelifts and deep plane minitucks are both procedures that demand unusual skill on the part of the surgeon.

Charlotte’s most experienced facial plastic surgeon

The deep plane minituck is a very challenging form of surgery to perform, and not every surgeon can do it well. The best surgeon to go to for a deep plane minituck in the Charlotte area is Dr. Sean Freeman. He has been certified by two different boards of surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Since 1988 he has focused on facial plastic surgery, and he is a pioneer in the use of the deep plane minituck. He has also developed a procedure called the SignatureLift, which is of particular benefit to younger patients and patients who have previously had a facelift.
