How to know when to consider a facelift
As we grow older the effects of everyday stresses and gravity begin to become visible on our face. We form deep creases between our nose and mouth and the skin around our jawline and neck begins to loosen and sag. We can develop jowls and lines on our forehead and around our eyes. These signs of aging can be reversed with a facelift. The type of facelift will depend upon the amount of damage to the face. Charlotte’s best facial plastic surgeon, Dr. M. Sean Freeman does two types of full facelifts. These are the deep plane facelift and the SignatureLift, a procedure Dr. Freeman developed and perfected.
Deep plane facelift
Dr. Freeman’s goal is to always provide his patients with natural results without that “plastic” operated-on look.If a patient’s facial skin is heavily wrinkled or they have excessive sagging and loosening of the skin, Dr. Freeman may recommend a full, deep plane facelift. You will meet with Dr. Freeman for an initial consultation where he will evaluate your skin, bone structure, and health. As he evaluates your appearance, Dr. Freeman may also recommend other facial plastic surgery procedures such as a brow lift or lip implants. Dr. Freeman is determined to provide his patients with the best possible results from their facelift surgery.
During the deep plane facelift, Dr. Freeman will make small incisions along your hairline. He will then carefully reposition the skin and deeper tissue to result in a tighter, more refreshed look. Dr. Freeman’s goal is to provide great results without his patient appearing to have had any surgery. If necessary, Dr. Freeman may also make a small incision under the chin so he can perform liposuction and remove any excess fat. This is done to help improve the tightness and firmness of the jawline and the neck area. Recovery from a deep plane facelift can be extensive and the patient will have swelling and bruising. The patient may usually return to normal activities within ten to 14 days following surgery, however, it may take several more weeks for the swelling and bruising to completely subside.
Signature Lift
Dr. Freeman may recommend a SignatureLift for younger patients or for patients who need a slight touching up after a regular facelift. Using the SignatureLift, Dr. Freeman can provide his patients with a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance with minimum downtime. Dr. Freeman performs both the deep plane facelift and his SignatureLift at his Charlotte NC clinic, The Center for Facial and Plastic Laser Surgery. Both procedures are usually done with sedation, however, at your option, general anesthesia is also available.
