Lip enhancement can be done more than one way

Techniques of lip enhancement

The lips. They are soft, fleshy, and surprisingly complex under the skin. We depend on them working perfectly for everything from eating to speaking to kissing. So if you want cosmetic lip enhancement, you’ll want the most careful surgeon you can find to do the job. Two types of cosmetic lip enhancement often used are lip augmentation and lip lift. A good plastic surgeon can tell you which one would work for you.

Lip augmentation surgery

If you want your lips to be just a little bit fuller, this can be done with an injectable filler. Hyaluronic acid products and fat are some of the fillers used. The procedure requires a small amount of topical anaesthetic before the injection. The swelling wears off after one or two days. Ask your surgeon for more information.

A more radical reshaping can be achieved through a dermal allograft, which means transplanting donated skin tissue into your lips. Specialized medical sources within the U.S. remove the cells from the tissue, leaving behind the collagen of the dermis, which is ready to be transplanted. All tissue donors are carefully screened before being permitted to donate. If you get a dermal allograft, it will be several days before you are ready to return to work, but the dermis will naturally become a part of your own tissue.

Getting a lip lift

One of the little-known rules of facial aesthetics is that the upper lip should take up about a third of the space between the base of the nose and the tip of the chin. If the upper lip is too long, the surgeon may recommend a lip lift. He or she will make a gull-wing-shaped incision under the nose, removing excess skin and tightening the muscles to bring out the upper lip and create the appearance of fuller lips.

This is usually done in the surgeon’s office rather than an operating room and involves minimal sedation. There is some swelling and bruising, but not much. Don’t put makeup on until the visible sutures have been taken out. This should only take five or six days.
