How to know if eye lift surgery is right for you

Eye lift surgery

An eye lift surgery patient in Charlotte should be in fairly good health, with no medical conditions such as blurry vision, dry eye, double vision, diabetes or thyroid problems. People with well-recessed eyes are good candidates for blepharoplasty. As with any plastic surgery, if you smoke, you should stop well before the surgery — smoking contracts the blood vessels, limiting the blood flow to your face and slowing the healing process. Don’t take any aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs just before the surgery. Tell your surgeon beforehand about any other medications you are taking, and follow his or her advice on whether or not to take them before surgery.

Different surgeons prefer different approaches to eye lift surgery. Many perform it under local anesthesia. The surgeon must make a very precise judgment about how much skin and muscle to remove in order to keep the eye safe while making it look younger. The sutures are thinner than eyelashes.

There will be some bruising and swelling for several days after eye lift surgery. Have some music or books on tape handy — you’ll want to be able to rest your eyes. There may also be some itchiness and dryness, which will also go away after a little while. The stitches will dissolve or be taken out in about five days. Recovery will probably be longer if eye lift surgery is accompanied by other procedures intended to make you look younger.

You may need a brow lift instead

Speaking of other procedures, sometimes the problem isn’t with the eyelids themselves, but with the skin above them. This skin loses elasticity with age and gradually sags into the space of the upper eyelids. In these cases, instead of eye lift surgery, the surgeon performs an endoscopic brow lift by inserting a tiny light and camera at the end of a very thin tube under the skin of the brow through small incisions, and drawing the skin, muscle and connective tissue back into place. After this procedure, pain medication will be needed for one to two days. Swelling and bruising should be gone in no more than two weeks.
