Getting a brow lift in Charlotte

The face you deserve? Too harsh

George Orwell once said, “At fifty, everyone has the face he deserves.” What he meant was that the patterns of lines that form on much of our face — especially our foreheads — are shaped by how we have most often used our facial muscles, the cumulative effect of decades of smiling and frowning. Trouble is, not everyone in Charlotte wants the face he or she supposedly deserves, and even those with the more pleasant laugh lines would sometimes like to be rid of them.

Brow lifts are a form of plastic surgery particularly suited to this. They have been performed since 1910, and with every generation, the technique has been refined. It is no longer a simple matter of cutting away skin (often part of the scalp) and lifting the rest straight up. Modern medicine has studied the patterns of aging on the human face and learned how to reverse them. In addition to sagging down, skin also migrates a little to the center, so making the forehead look younger involves moving the skin to the sides as well as up.

Under the skin

By inserting an apparatus called an endoscope with a tiny light and tiny camera through an incision, a surgeon can look under your skin and study the attachment of skin and muscle. What sort of brow lift you will get depends on where the sagging is. A lateral brow lift is appropriate when the skin is sagging more around the temples than in the center. An asymmetric brow lift is when the skin is sagging more on one side than on another, and a full brow lift and a three-quarter brow lift are used in slightly different cases when all parts of the forehead need to be lifted. After the surgery, you will need pain medication for one to two days. Swelling and bruising should be gone in no more than two weeks.

A brow lift may also be combined with other forms of facial plastic surgery to create an overall younger appearance. The procedure can sometimes also remove signs of aging in the area of the upper eyelid, if the skin of the brow has sagged into the space of the upper eyelid. Slightly different procedures can be used for men and women to preserve the masculinity or femininity of the face, if the patient wishes.
