As we age, many parts of our bodies migrate downwards, including some we never think about. When the fat under our eyelids sinks to the tops of our cheeks, it creates a puffy appearance right under the eyes. In the traditional procedure, an incision is made beneath the eyelashes of the lower lid. Skin and muscle are lifted, and fat is removed. Sometimes the surgeon will replace this deposit of fat with a deposit of fat taken from another part of the body, but the effect does not always last, and the pressure on the support structure of the lower lid can cause it to pull away slightly from the eyeball — something no one wants. The initial incision is made on the inside of the lid, where it cannot be seen. The surgeon then lifts the SOOF back into place and tightens the structure that holds it there.
