Facial plastic surgery and other cosmetic treatments

Facial plastic surgery

Lots of people from all walks of life — not just actors and models, but everyone from politicians and businesspeople to homemakers in Charlotte — are trying facial plastic surgery. As you may have heard, even men like Keith Urban might be getting work done. The most common operations are face lifts, rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery. Other procedures aimed at making you look younger include brow lifts, neck lifts and malar pad lifts, while ear surgery and facial implants are geared toward making your face more conventionally attractive.

These procedures all have different requirements — cosmetic rhinoplasty can only be performed on someone whose nose has already reached its mature growth, whereas ear surgery can be performed on small children. As a general rule, all of them require that you do not smoke for two weeks before the surgery or until your face is fully healed.

Not technically surgery

The first thing you do when thinking about facial plastic surgery is to get the opinion of an expert and find out if you actually need surgery. Not everything a facial plastic surgeon does is surgery according to the usual definition. Filler injections can do a lot to enhance and/or rejuvenate a face. Injectables relax certain facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. These procedures can be used by themselves or can complement a face or brow lift for added effect.

Laser treatments can permanently remove unwanted tattoos without damaging the skin. A laser of the right color is aimed at the tattoo, the ink particles absorb the light and are broken into fragments. These fragments are then washed into the bloodstream and filtered out of the body by the kidneys. It may take more than one treatment to remove a tattoo, and treatments should be spaced two to three months apart.

A pulsed dye laser can also be used to treat port wine stains. Patients should not have a tan when they begin this treatment and should wear sunscreen afterward. There will be some slight bruising for about a week following the treatment.
