Questions answered about face lifts
Many people have questions about face lift. Here are some common ones.
How long is recovery time from a face lift?
This depends on the exact procedure. The quickest recovery happens when a face lift is the only procedure performed. The recovery happens in stages — you should be able to drive after about four days. After two weeks, enough of the swelling is gone that you should feel comfortable appearing in public again. Keeping your head elevated and refraining from doing anything strenuous for the next two weeks will keep your blood pressure down and reduce swelling and bruising.
How long does a face lift last?
This also depends on the procedure. A face lift that only involves the skin will last from three to six years, but it will last somewhat longer with additional treatments, such as fat injection to restore volume.
What is the right age for a face lift?
The younger you are, the more quickly you will recover and the more effective the procedure will be — but of course, the younger you are the less likely you are to need a face lift in the first place. A lift in your 40s or 50s will help prevent changes to your face that might not be so easy to reverse later.
Is there a specific procedure for lifting jowls?
In a younger patient, liposuction might be a better idea than a facelift. In an older patient with marionette lines (lines that go all the way down to the jowl) a surgeon may recommend fillers, or may advise a procedure such as a deep plane minituck.
Are there nonsurgical options?
In some cases, fillers can be used to reduce wrinkles. You’ll need to consult a facial plastic surgeon to learn if this would be right for you.
Why do so many Hollywood stars have such terrible plastic surgery outcomes when they should be able to afford the best facial plastic surgeons in the world?
Because when a star gets good plastic surgery, you don’t notice it — you just look at them and think they’re aging gracefully. The ones you notice are the minority whose surgeries have failed.
