Eyelift surgery – prepare by finding the best surgeon

Eyelift surgery- learn more

An eyelift may be right for you if you are growing older and your eyes do not seem to have the look of alertness and interest they once did. It may even be of medical benefit if you are finding it physically hard to open them all the way. Eyelifts have been performed at least since the early nineteenth century as a way of correcting eyelids that sag so much that they interfere with vision. In the twentieth century, surgeons began to perform it as a strictly cosmetic procedure. There are different procedures for the upper and lower eyelids.

For the most part, this article will be looking at upper eyelid surgery. However, there are times when that is not the procedure that is called for. If the problem is that the skin above the eyelids has sagged into their space, then instead of an eyelift the surgeon will perform an endoscopic brow lift, providing the cosmetic benefit of a smoother forehead as well as younger and more open eyes.

If an eyelift is called for, one way to do it is to tighten the muscles and fascial layer within the eyelid itself. Different surgeons favor different methods of eye lift surgery. Some perform it under local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. But in all cases, the surgeon must know exactly how much skin and muscle to remove in order to keep the eye safe while making it look younger.

Preparing for an eye lift in Charlotte, NC

In order to undergo an eyelift, you should have well-recessed eyes and no medical conditions such as blurry vision, dry eye, double vision, diabetes or thyroid problems. As with any plastic surgery, if you smoke, you should stop well before the operation, and avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, anti-inflammatory drugs or certain herbal supplements. Tell your surgeon early on about any other medications you take, and follow his or her advice.

There is going to be some bruising and swelling for several days after an eyelift. There may also be some itchiness and dryness. The best way to deal with this is to have music or books on tape handy, so you can rest your eyes. The stitches should dissolve or be taken out around five days after the surgery.
