Brow lifts and how they are performed

Brow lifts and eyebrow lifts

Brow lift have been performed since 1910, and have only gotten better since then. Cosmetic surgeons don’t just cut out a slice of the scalp and lift the skin on the brow straight up to close the wound. Instead, skin is lifted up and to the sides, reversing the usual aging pattern in which time and muscle activity force skin to migrate down and to the center.

A brow lift is sometimes combined with other forms of cosmetic surgery to create a younger look. The procedure can remove signs of aging in the area of the upper eyelid, if the skin of the brow has sagged into the space of the upper eyelid. Slightly different procedures can be used for men and women to preserve the masculinity or femininity of the face, if the patient wishes. There is also the eyebrow lift, which helps the recipient look not just younger, but more awake, cheerful and energetic.

The endoscope

The key to the modern brow lift is a device called an endoscope, which has a tiny light and camera at the end of a flexible tube. By inserting it through a small incision in the skin of your forehead, a surgeon can study the attachment of skin and muscle directly. There are different kinds of brow lifts, and what sort the surgeon decides to perform will depend on what he or she sees through the endoscope.

Before and after surgery

As with any cosmetic surgery, you should refrain from smoking for about two weeks before the procedure, since nicotine slows healing. After the surgery, you will need pain medication for one to two days. Recovery time for a brow lift is usually about two weeks, but it will be at least three weeks before you should do anything strenuous that will raise your blood pressure. To make it go a little faster, sleep in a lounge chair and get one of those neck pillows people use on airplanes. The idea is to keep your head elevated. Don’t take aspirin, and don’t chew anything for too long.
