Brow lift questions and answers

Frequently asked brow lift questions in Charlotte

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about brow lift.

A friend of mine suggested I get a browlift, but thirty years ago my aunt got her brow raised, and it looked horrible. She went around with this perpetually shocked look for about five years. Can you promise me it won’t turn out that badly?

With an experienced surgeon performing the procedure, it should look much better. It sounds like your aunt just had a slice of her scalp cut away and the rest of the skin lifted straight up. Since then, surgeons have gotten much better at performing brow lifts. They’ve learned how the skin on the forehead ages. It not only sags downward, it also tends to migrate a little to the center, so making the forehead look younger means moving the skin to the sides as well as up. The modern endoscopic browlift is much better at restoring your original youthful appearance.

What does “endoscopic” mean?

It means that the surgeon uses an endoscope. It has a tiny light and camera at the end of a probe. The surgeon makes an incision in the skin and inserts the endoscope to study the attachment of skin and muscle to the bone of the forehead. This lets him or her tailor the operation to your needs.

Are there different kinds of brow lifts?

Yes. A lateral browlift is appropriate when the skin is sagging more around the temples than in the center. An asymmetric brow lift is when the skin is sagging more on one side than on another, and a full brow lift and a three-quarter brow lift are used in slightly different cases when all parts of the forehead need to be lifted.

How long will I need to recover?

You will need pain medication for one to two days after surgery. Swelling and bruising should be gone in two weeks.
