A mini tuck may work for you

Is a mini tuck right for you?

If you’re thinking of getting a facelift, you may be wondering what kind of facelift is right for you. One kind of facelift that involves less surgery than some others is the deep plane mini tuck. This is an option if you’re suffering from loose skin around the midface, mouth and neck. Get your face thoroughly examined by an experienced facial plastic surgeon. The laxity should be the result of loose skin and muscle tissue, not caused by excess fat under the neck or looseness of the submandibular glands (two of the salivary glands).

A deep plane mini tuck is a deep plane lift on the lines of the jaw, jowl and mouth, performed by making an incision around the ear and lifting the connective tissue and releasing the ligaments under the skin of the cheeks. By lifting the lateral border of a fan-shaped neck muscle known as the platysma muscle, the surgeon improves the line of the neck. Sometimes the malar pad, the fatty tissue under the skin of the upper cheek, will also be lifted. The effect of all this is to recapture the structure the midface had when it was younger, thereby recapturing its appearance as well without making it look stretched or unnatural.

If you decide to get a deep plane mini tuck

Recovery from a mini tuck should take less time than recovery from a full facelift. As with any facial plastic surgery, you should avoid smoking for a few weeks before and after the procedure, along with aspirin, ibuprofen and vitamin E supplements. You should be able to return to normal activity within two weeks. Wait for the swelling to go down before you decide if you like your new look, which can take several weeks. (Try sleeping in a sitting position to reduce the swelling.) Your surgeon will have more advice.

The deep plane minituck is a very challenging form of surgery to perform, and not every surgeon can do it well. He’s also developed a procedure called the SignatureLift, which provides the greatest benefit to younger patients and patients who have had a facelift before.
