People have rhinoplasty for many reasons

Rhinoplasty recovery can last for multiple weeks for Charlotte, NC residents. But, for those who are having the procedure, the recovery will be worth it. If you’re having a nose job to correct a perceived flaw, the time spent recovering can be worth it since you’ll feel more confident afterward. And if you’re having it to correct a deviated septum, you’re probably very excited to get started on your surgery. Below, you’ll learn what to expect after surgery and when you can see results.

After surgery, you’ll experience swelling and bruising

Though you’ll be excited to come out of surgery and see your new nose, you’ll need some time to recover before you’ll start to see your results.

Immediately after surgery, you should expect to have swelling and see bruising on your face. Keep your head elevated for the first few days to help reduce the swelling and apply ice as directed. Your surgeon may also prescribe some pain medication to get your through the first few days, which are usually the worst of it.

You’ll need to follow your surgeon’s instructions when it comes to caring for your nose. You may have a splint on your nose as well as bandages. Some patients may also require the use of nasal packing after surgery. Your doctor will go over how to change these or keep the areas clean when discussing rhinoplasty recovery with you before surgery. Be sure to have someone there to learn how to help you with this as well.

During rhinoplasty recovery, you’ll also need to be careful not to bump your nose. You may want to have some button up shirts to wear after surgery, so you don’t have to pull clothing over your face. Glasses can also be difficult to deal with after surgery. Be sure to have a fresh stash of contacts. During your rhinoplasty recovery, you’ll need to forgo putting on makeup. It’s easy to bump your nose on accident when applying it.

Your nose needs time to heal

Rhinoplasty recovery can last a while. Though you should feel comfortable returning to work within a few weeks, it takes almost a full year for your nose to completely heal and you see results. But, once you’re nose heals, your results will be permanent.
