It covers procedures that can do anything from changing the size of the tip of the nose to making it point in a slightly different direction to reducing a nasal hump to repairing a broken nose. By straightening the septum, rhinoplasty can fix some breathing problems. With the nose in the center of the face, few things can improve the face more dramatically than improving the nose.
There are two kinds of rhinoplasty — open and closed. In both of them, the surgeon reshapes the bone and cartilage under the skin. In a closed rhinoplasty, the doctor makes the incisions inside the nose, hiding them from view and making sure the result looks completely natural. If this is not possible, the surgeon will perform an open rhinoplasty, in which an incision is made on the outside of the nose — usually between the nostrils. The greater the alteration, the better the surgeon needs to be.
After surgery, there will usually be swelling in the nose, along with some bruising. You will not be able to see exactly what your new nose looks like until the swelling has gone down. If you are not satisfied, it is possible to perform a nose job to improve the results of a previous one — a revision rhinoplasty. If you are considering this, you should wait for at least one year after the first rhinoplasty.
