Laser procedures in this case included a tattoo removal. Lasers work by emitting short pulses of intense light that passes through the skin to be absorbed by the tattoo pigment. This energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are absorbed and excreted from the body, The laser selectively targets the pigment of the tattoo without damaging the surrounding tissue. Black pigment absorbs all laser wavelengths and therefore is the easiest to remove. Reds, greens and blues selectively absorb laser light requiring different wavelengths and types of lasers. More than one treatment is required to remove an entire tattoo, the number of treatments depend on colors used and the amount of ink injected. These treatments can be performed using topical anesthesia with little or no discomfort like Charlotte laser hair removal. At the Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery you will be evaluated by Dr. M. Sean Freeman, Charlotte’s top facial plastic surgeon, and your treatments will be performed at three month intervals to allow for maximum absorption of the pigment.
