People may have a neck lift to improve a variety of perceived flaws

Neck lift is a popular procedure for many Charlotte, NC residents. The surgery can be used to treat many different perceived issues on people’s lower faces. A neck lift is often used to correct sagging skin on the neck that can cause jowls or fatty deposits under the chin. It is also used to remove excess, loose skin on the neck. Patients who have these neck issues may feel self conscious about their appearance or may feel they look older than they are as a result.

Because neck lifts target the lower part of the face, they are often a good choice for people who feel confident in their upper face. For example, they believe their eyes look good and have limited wrinkles on the forehead. However, people may get a neck lift in conjunction with a facelift. This would target the entire face and help patient’s upper and lower facial areas look their best.

The doctor will evaluate the skin to help decide incision points

At your consultation, the surgeon will evaluate the skin on the neck for elasticity, thickness, and texture. They will then decide where they will make the incisions. Typically the incision is made in around the ear, then moves around the earlobe and into the hairline, often by the sideburns. The surgeon will then tighten the skin and alter weakened neck muscles. They will also remove any excess skin that needs to be removed. If necessary, the doctor can also make a small incision under the chin and liposuction fat out of there as well. Any scarring that may occur can often be hidden by hair or makeup once the incisions have healed.

Patients should plan to take a few weeks off work and away from activities

Following neck lift surgery, patients will have bandaging around the neck and face. Most patients don’t feel comfortable returning to work or going out in public right away after surgery. Most feel confident returning to activities within ten to 14 days after surgery. However, it does take about six weeks for things to heal fully.

It is important to follow doctor’s orders after surgery. Be sure to go over your recovery plan before the procedure and have someone around who can help you. Following the physician’s instructions can help ensure a smooth recovery. It is important to not apply ice to the neck following neck lift surgery as it can compromise the blood flow to the area.

Neck lift cost varies for each patient

Per 2016 statistics from the Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of neck lift is $4,528.00. That price only includes the surgery and does not include anesthesia, recovery room fees, medication charges, and more. Be sure to ask your doctor for a price following your consultation.
