A Charlotte doctor is going to fix my floppy ears.
My parents say it’s time for a doctor to fix my floppy ears. I can hear just fine, but my ears stick out too far and other kids laugh at them. They say there’s a way to fix this in Charlotte NC called “otoplasty” or “ear pinning” which can be done even on somebody who’s little. In order to fix my ears, the surgeon has to make a little cut in the backs of both my ears. This would hurt a lot, except they’re going to make sure it doesn’t hurt as much. If I were a grownup, they’d just give me medicine to keep it from hurting so much. But they say I’m not good at holding still very long, and they’re right, so when they’re doing the operation, they’re going to give me something so I can sleep through it.

After they fix my ears
After the operation is over, they’ll wrap a big bandage around my head like a turban for about five days. I have to leave the bandage alone, because this is going to let my ears heal where they are now. I’ll also get to stay home from school for a whole week. The doctor will take the stitches out after a week or so. But for a month afterward I’m not going to be able to play sports or do anything else where I could get hit on the head and get my ears hurt.
