Eyelid surgery recovery time is an important step in the surgical process
Eyelid surgery recovery time is not something all Charlotte, NC patients may plan for when preparing for eyelid surgery. However, it is an important step and should not be overlooked. A smooth recovery can help ensure you get the results you want from the procedure.
Patients may have eyelid surgery for many different reasons
Patients have eyelid surgery for many, unique reasons. Some may wish to have work done on their upper eyelids if they start to sag and droop down in front of the eyes. This can not only make patients feel self conscious but can also affect people’s vision.
Other patients may have the procedure done on their lower eyelids. This is usually done to correct puffiness under the eyes which are often referred to as under eye bags. Eye bags can make patients look tired and older, under eyelid surgery can help patients look more youthful and energized.
Recovery can take a few weeks
Prior to surgery patients should be sure to plan for their eyelid surgery recovery time. Patients will need to take a few weeks off work and activities to stay at home and recover. They will also need someone to drive them home after the procedure and stay with them for a few days afterward as well.
Immediately following the surgery, patients should expect to see bruising and swelling around the eyes. Bruising fades within five to seven days with the swelling subsiding within seven to ten days. To help control the swelling patients should elevate their head when they are sleeping and resting.
Patients should also be sure to only take prescribed medication following surgery. Common household pain relievers such as ibuprofen and aspirin should not be taken, only prescribed pain medication. Be sure to discuss all medications you are taking with your doctor before surgery.
It is also important to protect the eyes from both the sunlight and being jostled. Avoid sun exposure until the eyes are fully healed. Contacts should not be worn, and patients should be careful when putting on glasses so as not to accidentally bump the eyes.
