Adults and children alike may choose to undergo ear surgery

Ear surgery cost in one of the first things Charlotte, NC residents considering ear surgery want to know. Unlike most plastic surgeries, however, children, as well as adults, may have the surgery. Parents who are planning on their child having the surgery and adults having the procedure themselves will need to save for the out of pocket expense of ear surgery.

Ear surgery is often used to correct a few different issues

Ear surgery is perhaps best known to fix protruding ears. This procedure, known as ear pinning, is just one of the things ear surgery can correct for patients.

Ear pinning is also used to correct ears that are overly large. They may not stick out a lot, but they may be overly long or even uneven, and the patient wishes to get this corrected. The procedure can also correct ear structure defects and damage that was done to the ear from injury.

There are many factors that go into determining the cost of the procedure.

There is not set ear surgery cost as many different factors go in to determining the cost. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons advises patients should anticipate spending, on average, more than $3,100.00 for the surgery alone. This fee does not include other costs such as anesthesia, surgical and recovery room charges, medications, additional appointments, and more. Your surgeon should be able to give you a quote following a consultation.

One thing patients often forget to take into consideration when planning for how much ear surgery cost is is the cost of appointments, not just the surgery. The initial consultation itself will have a cost, which is usually separate from other fees. Patients will then need pre and post operation appointments which will add to the cost as well.

Insurance usually does not cover the cost of ear surgery

Most insurance companies will not cover the ear surgery cost. Like most plastic surgeries, if the procedure is done for cosmetic reasons, such as improving your appearance, most insurance companies will not cover any of the cost. This includes any cost that stems from surgery complications.

If the procedure is done for medical reasons, however, insurance may help cover some of the cost. Medical reasons would include, but not be limited to, surgery to correct defects or surgery that repairs the hearing of the patient. All patients should be sure to contact their insurance provider before surgery to see if they will cover any of the ear surgery cost. If they do, pre authorization may be required, so it’s important to check well in advance of the surgery.
