The deep plane facelift is the most extensive facelift
The most extensive facelift that a Charlotte, NC facial plastic surgeon can perform is the deep plane facelift. Its effect is more profound and lasts longer than that of any other facelift. To perform a deep plane facelift, the surgeon lifts the fatty tissues of the throat and adjusts the skin and deeper facial tissues to the position they were in when you were many years younger. If necessary, the surgeon also shaves the backs of two of the salivary glands inside the cheeks. This procedure is often done alongside other procedures to create an otherwise youthful appearance over the whole face and neck.
How to manage a deep plane facelift
As with any cosmetic surgery, you should refrain from smoking or drinking while you’re recovering, and use only those pain medicines your doctor prescribes. The face will have a swollen, bruised appearance which may last for several weeks, and the surgeon will need to leave the sutures in for close to a week. There may also be some bleeding from the incisions before they finish healing. You should also keep a close eye on your temperature, because fever may be a sign of developing infection. Don’t do any heavy lifting or other exercises that might raise the blood pressure in your head or face.
The recovery period for a deep plane facelift is longer than that for other facelifts. Don’t try to judge the success of a deep plane facelift until the swelling has finished going down. Once it has, the simplest way to tell if a deep plane facelift has been successful is to look at a photo of yourself from ten, fifteen or twenty years ago and compare it to your current face. (You may wish to use a photograph of yourself rather than a mirror, as the reversed image in a mirror may give you a less than accurate picture.) Or you can look at a photo of yourself just before the surgery, taken from the same angle, and see how different it is. If you only asked for a deep plane facelift, check to make sure your midface doesn’t look too much younger than everything else.
