Chin surgery is a procedure that can help improve a patient’s appearance

Chin surgery is a fast way to change Charlotte, NC patients’ appearance drastically. Chin surgery is a popular cosmetic procedure for both men and women as a strong chin is a desirable trait for both genders. The chin plays a significant role in determining how a person looks and it affects the jawline, neckline, and more.

Chin implants are a permanent type of chin surgery

Patients who are looking to alter their chin permanently will probably want chin implants. Chin implants are a rather quick procedure, and the surgery typically takes an hour or less to complete. The surgeon will make an incision either inside the mouth or under the chin that they will insert the implant through. The implant may be a standard implant or a custom designed one based on the patient’s needs. The implant is put into a pocket the surgeon will make into the chin bone and eventually grows to be part of the actual chin.

A temporary solution is also available for those who are unsure they want an implant

For patients who do not want something so permanent done, chin fillers are also available. This procedure requires the surgeon to inject a filler into the chin to increase its prominence. This will only be a temporary fix and would require repeat injections to maintain the results.

Chin surgery is often done in conjunction with other procedures

Maintaining facial balance is important when having plastic surgery of any kind. Before having a procedure done the surgeon may recommend other procedures to have done as well to help keep the balance of the face and not leave patients looking too worked on. Chin implants are often done in conjunction with other surgeries for this reason. Chin surgery is often done along with nose jobs, facelifts, and neck surgeries, among others.

Chin surgery requires patient dedication before and after surgery

Though the actual surgery itself is rather short, patients will need to follow doctor’s order both before surgery and during recovery. Before surgery patients will need to start an antibiotic regiment to help fight infections that they will continue after surgery as well. Patients should be sure to discuss any medical and dental history with their surgeon when the surgeon inquires.

Following surgery, in addition to taking antibiotics, patients will need to take any other medications prescribed to them. Bruising and swelling is common after the procedure and usually fades in a seven to ten days. Most patients are able to return to work and activities about a week after surgery.
