Patients may choose to undergo chin plastic surgery for many reasons

Chin plastic surgery is a common procedure for both men and women in Charlotte, NC. Many men desire a strong chin, which is often equated with good looks and can help a man have a strong jaw line. Women may also want a stronger chin as it can contribute to making the neck look tighter and can help balance out a person’s face. Whatever the reason a person is considering having work done on their chin, finding the best surgeon to help you achieve your goals is important.

Chin implants are a permanent way to have a stronger chin and jawline

Chin implants are a common type of chin plastic surgery. For this procedure, the doctor will make an incision either inside the mouth or under the chin and insert the implant through there. The implant is put into a pocket on the chin bone that the surgeon makes. This placement of the implant helps it grow to become part of the chin which makes chin implants a permanent part of your face.

If you do not want to do anything permanent yet, fillers are also available to be put into the chin. However, chin fillers are temporary and will require additional injections to keep the results. These additional injections can sometimes add up, and patients should budget for additional injections when choosing this option.

Recovery time is typically about one week

Following chin implant surgery patients should plan to stay home from work and out of activities for about a week. Like with most surgeries, patients can expect to see bruising and swelling immediately following surgery. The bruising and swelling will go down within seven to ten days allowing patients to see their results. Patients may also feel a tightness around their mouth and neck when smiling or speaking after surgery, but this is only temporary.

Prior to surgery patients will need to discuss any issues they have or have had previously with their teeth and gums. You should also discuss any medications you are currently taking including vitamin supplements. Certain medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen as well as supplements, can impact surgery and your ability to heal. The doctor will also start a round of antibiotics before surgery to combat infections.

Following surgery patients will need to continue the antibiotics and take any other medications prescribed by the doctor. Once the area is fully healed, patients can return to work and regular activities. Patients typically recover within a week.
