Patients may wish to have cheek plastic surgery for many reasons

Cheek plastic surgery can alter Charlotte, NC patients’ appearance either subtly or drastically. Depending on the patient’s goals, light adjustments can be made to help a patient, or drastic changes can be made if the patient wishes to change their appearance radically.

Older patients may begin to notice the middle of their face starts to look sunken or saggy and want to correct that. However, cheek plastic surgery is not just for older patients, and younger people may elect to have the procedure as well if they do not feel confident in their looks.

There are three main types of cheek surgery

There are many options of procedures patients can have. Some offer long term solutions while others are only temporary. Your physician will be able to recommend which procedure is the best for you following an evaluation at your consultation.

Cheek fillers are injections that are made into the cheeks. These offer a temporary fix, and additional injections are required to keep up the results. These repeat injections will have an added cost patients should consider when choosing this option.

Another option for patients is fat grafting. Fat grafting requires the surgeon to take fat from another area of the patient’s body and put it into the face. This a more long lasting than injections. However, having an experienced surgeon perform this procedure is important so patients get the best results.

A popular cheek plastic surgery is cheek implants. Implants require the surgeon to make an incision inside the mouth, and the implants are inserted through there. Making the incision inside the mouth prevents scarring from being visible following surgery.

Cheek surgery recovery requires planning on the patient’s part

Cheek plastic surgery recovery typically lasts three weeks. Patients who have had cheek implants put in will need to be careful and will have restricted mouth and lip movement for a small amount of time. Thankfully, bruising and swelling fades within a week to ten days allowing patients to start to see their results.

One thing patients need to anticipate before they have implants put in is their diet after surgery. Since the incision is made inside the mouth, patients need to be careful not to stretch out the mouth. Patients will need to go on a soft food diet for the first week or two after surgery and should not speak for about a week after the procedure.  Most patients are fully healed in about three weeks.
