Brow lifts and how I decided to get one
(The following is a dramatization.)
Brow lifts are perfectly effective, but for a long time, I was nervous about getting one. Maybe I was paying the price for many years of reading invoices and expense reports and scowling suspiciously at them, but it seemed as though my forehead was fifteen to twenty years older than the rest of my face. People kept telling me that I looked tired or unwell. Given that I still have many years of career left, this was not an impression I wanted to create.
So why was I so slow to get a brow lift? Because you can’t go online these days without seeing some hideous photo of too much facial plastic surgery, or facial plastic surgery gone wrong. Brow lifts might seem like a comparatively disaster-proof procedure, but even there I’ve seen some bad ones — people whose skin suddenly looks like plastic, women whose foreheads go so far up that they look like they’re suffering from male pattern baldness. So I did a lot of searching for the right surgeon.
Finding a brow lift surgeon I had confidence in
I found an experienced facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte, NC who showed me a gallery of before and after photos of his own work, which convinced me he would get the job done right. But that was only the first step — I had to be sure not only that the surgery was right for me, but that I was right for it. This meant checking for any medical conditions that would make it a bad idea.
Once I was sure the surgery was going to happen, I quit drinking for a few weeks. I got everything I’d need in the way of bandages and medications. I had the operation performed along with some eyelid surgery, to get rid of my crow’s feet, and took a couple of weeks off. When the swelling finally went down, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I looked twenty years younger, and better rather than worse.
