Finding a good rhinoplasty surgeon

What to know before selecting a rhinoplasty surgeon

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular facial plastic surgery procedures.  Dr. M. Sean Freeman, Charlotte’s top rhinoplast surgeon does hundreds of these surgeries every year.  The reasons a patient requests rhinoplasty can be varied.  The individual may be unhappy with the shape or size of their nose or they may not think their facial features are in balance because of their nose.  Other reasons include repairing a genetic or birth deformity or fixing an injury.  Whatever the reason, Dr. Freeman can provide you with guidance and advice on whether or not you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty.  He meets with every patient and explains the entire procedure, including what results in the patient can expect.  It is very important to Dr. Freeman that every patient completely understand what the rhinoplasty procedure can do.  For example, changing the size or shape of the nose will not change a person’s appearance.  They will still look the way they did, however, their facial features will be slightly modified and improved.

The procedure

The rhinoplasty procedure is typically performed at Dr. Freeman’s Charlotte NC clinic, the Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery.  Dr. Freeman is double-board certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology.  He has more than 20 years’ experience performing facial plastic surgery procedures exclusively and is considered one of the top facial plastic surgeons in the Southeast United States.  When Dr. Freeman performs rhinoplast surgery, he uses one of two techniques.  The first technique is the closed rhinoplast where Dr. Freeman makes tiny incisions inside the nose so they are not visible.  Swelling following this procedure typically abates quickly and the patient can resume normal activities within a few days.

The other rhinoplasty technique Dr. Freeman uses is open rhinoplasty.  This technique is usually used on patients who require more modification or significant repair or improvement to their nose.  During the open rhinoplasty, Dr. Freeman makes an incision across the base of the nose.  This incision, while on the exterior of the nose, is still very hard to see and there is typically very little scarring or anything to create aesthetic concerns.  Using open rhinoplasty provides Dr. Freeman easier access to the internal structure of the nose.  This is why he uses open rhinoplasty when he must make significant changes in the nose’s structure.  This procedure does tend to result in more swelling than the closed rhinoplasty, however, the patient usually does not require packing and the swelling subsides within ten days or so.

Rhinoplasty candidates

Dr. Freeman encourages anyone considering rhinoplast to meet with him for a consultation.  He can use digital imaging software to help the patient envision what their new nose will look like.  If you care considering rhinoplasty surgery, give Dr. Freeman a call to meet with him for a consultation appointment.
