Rhinoplasty recovery- completing the process

(The following is a dramatization. A previous post looked at the first few days of a typical case of rhinoplasty recovery.)

Day 7

My boyfriend called to say he’s coming down with a cold. Sorry. Pain meds. Not clear.

I’ve been recovering from my rhinoplasty for a week now. My nose is still swollen and numb. I’m afraid to spend too much time outside because even at this time of year I might sunburn my nose and not know it.

The one thing I absolutely can’t afford, right now, is to come down with a cold. The tissues of my nose are still very fragile from the rhinoplasty. Blowing my own nose could damage them. We’re going to have to keep our distance from each other until I’m sure he’s well. The worst part is that he’s not the only person I know in Charlotte, NC who’s got a respiratory ailment. I’m going to have to stay inside a lot longer. Just to be on the safe side, I’ve started washing my hands about a dozen times a day.

Day 10

I’ve discovered that it’s a lot easier to cope with staying inside if you stay in touch with your friends online. I took some pictures of my nose on Day 2, and I’ve posted them online alongside pictures I took today. It’s still swollen, but the bruising is just about gone, and my friends are being very encouraging.

Day 13

Just had a follow-up visit with my rhinoplasty surgeon. Everything’s going well. That’s the good news. The bad news is that I really want to vacuum the rug, but that would mean moving some furniture and I can’t do any heavy lifting right now — it might raise my blood pressure.

Day 30

Okay, I think the swelling has finally gone down completely. At least I hope it has — I love the way my nose looks right now. For the first time, I feel like my face looks completely right. This was worth it.

Recording a rhinoplasty recovery

(The following is a dramatization.)

Day 2

I went through rhinoplasty yesterday. This is the first time I’ve been able to write anything. I was unconscious for the procedure itself, and I needed my boyfriend to bring me home afterward. I’ve been pretty out of it. Rhinoplasty is serious surgery.

Rhinoplasty – Charlotte NC

I haven’t had a drink or a cigarette in three weeks. I was hoping to be able to vape or use the patch, but they tell me nicotine in any form slows down the healing process by constricting the blood vessels. Drinking can cause excessive bleeding by inhibiting clotting. So can aspirin, ibuprofen, garlic and fish oil, so I’ve had to adjust my diet and suffer through a few headaches. So can vitamin E and herbal supplements, but I don’t take those, so that’s okay.

This is the part of the rhinoplasty that worries me. Anything that goes wrong for the next few weeks can ruin everything.

Day 3

My nose is badly swollen. I have to fight the urge to touch it. Fortunately, I have some painkillers my surgeon recommended. I’m also taking antibiotics, just in case. I’m more or less living off fluids at this point.

There are complications I hadn’t really thought about. I have a closet full of sweaters I can’t wear because I can’t pull them over my face. I can’t wear my reading glasses. My boyfriend brought me one of those neck pillows they use on airplanes, so I can sleep in a chair.

Day 4

The swelling hasn’t gotten any worse. I think the pillow might be helping. I can’t wait to see what my rhinoplasty looks like when I’m done. I managed to eat something today. It was instant mashed potatoes, but that’s something.

Day 7

It’s a good thing I work from home. I’ve been stuck in my Charlotte, NC since the surgery. And there’s a new problem. My boyfriend called to see when he’s coming down with a cold…

Planning Charlotte rhinoplasty recovery to avoid the flu

Rhinoplasty recovery can be pretty simple if you can keep from getting sick. Short of a major accident, the worst thing that can happen to you during Charlotte rhinoplasty recovery is a cold or the flu. The nose, at this stage, is much too fragile to sneeze through. Two weeks before the Charlotte surgery, stop smoking, drinking and taking aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E and certain herbal supplements. Get someone to drive you home after the surgery, or arrange for a taxi to pick you up.

Caring for yourself after a nose job

For the first two to three days, take your antibiotics and follow your surgeon’s advice on cold packs. Find something you can still eat, and drink a lot of fluids. The good news is that you will be spending a lot of time during your Charlotte rhinoplasty recovery at home, possibly alone. This may get depressing, but it will minimize the risk of coming into contact with someone who has the flu. Wash your hands before meals… and after meals, and several other times every day. (Don’t bother with antibacterial soap. Colds and the flu are caused by viruses.) You shouldn’t touch your nose until it’s fully healed, but try not to touch your eyes or mouth either. Keep the things you touch clean, and get plenty of sleep to strengthen your immune system. Take your temperature often — this will warn you of infection as well as sickness.

You should also avoid any kind of clothing that presses against your nose as you put it on or take it off. Keep away from nicotine or alcohol for a few weeks more. To avoid raising the blood pressure in your head, don’t do any heavy exercise, don’t lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk and try not to bend over. When you sleep, keep your head elevated to reduce swelling, using a neck pillow. Above all, keep your follow-up appointments with your surgeon, and wait until the swelling has gone down completely to make up your mind about the success or failure of the rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty specialist in Charlotte NC, Dr. Sean Freeman: for your best nose ever:

Rhinoplasty specialist – Charlotte NC

Rhinoplasty, the medical term for a nose job, takes a highly-trained specialist like Dr. Sean Freeman at Only Faces in Charlotte.  If you want the Best Rhinoplasty Specialist in the Southeast, make a consultation with Dr. Freeman at Only Faces.  Read the patient testimonials, see real Before and After pictures, click on Dr. Freeman’s Curriculum Vitae (a new way of saying Life’s Work) and try to read ALL the amazing accomplishments of this rhinoplasty specialist in Charlotte NC.

The Rhinoplasty Specialist: what you need for a great nose job:

Today, with improved techniques and more accessibility, getting a nose job is more common than you think.  Most nose jobs are done for cosmetic reasons, not medical.  But, as doctors learn more about this large, protruding organ we call a nose, they are finding that rhinoplasty may help with medical issues as well.  If you have a nose that does not work like it should, due to genetics or life experience, you can be sure your medical bills will go up.  Our noses perform a most vital job:  they bring in the clean oxygen our lungs need to keep the rest of our bodies in top form.  Not enough oxygen= not enough fuel to keep us healthy and fit.

So, should you go to a facial plastic surgery facility like Only Faces to get a nose job for medical reasons?  Isn’t that a place for cosmetic surgery?  Well, if you want the best rhinoplasty specialist in the Southeast, the answer is yes!  Dr. Freeman is double-board certified by the American Medical Association and the American board of Otolaryngology (ENT). Two years in a row, the online forum Real Self named him Top Doctor, meaning that real people, not other medical professionals, voted him as their choice for Top Rhinoplasty Expert.  If, during your consultation, you discover that Dr. Freeman is not available on the exact day you would like, don’t think it is because he has a hammock waiting in Maui.  More than likely, he is traveling to a major medical school or conference to teach others about his latest development.

When you want your money to pay for more than just a nose job:

Even though we have discussed the medical reasons to get a nose job, most people get one for cosmetic reasons.  And insurance doesn’t pay for that. If you are researching this site to decide if a nose job is a good way to spend your hard-earned money, you are the patient Dr. Freeman truly appreciates. You are not afraid to ask real and honest questions, and neither are you afraid to hear real and honest answers to those questions. You have probably heard or read about the “nose job gone bad,” and you worry that it may happen to you. You wonder if your nose job will be obvious or will people scratch their heads, wondering what is different.  You want to know about more than just the end result because you realize that this procedure is requires patience and healing.  You are just the patient Only Faces loves to serve.

Remember these two words: BALANCE and HARMONY.  These two words aren’t listed on his Curriculum Vitae, but they are at the heart of his life’s work.  He and his staff urge you to be honest with yourself with this question:  do you want a rhinoplasty surgeon who is going to take the picture you bring in and say, “Yes, I will give you that!”? Or do you want a caring rhinoplasty specialist in Charlotte NC who will study your entire face, showing you, teaching you, how all of it works together and how he can adjust it to make it fit together more perfectly?

Balance and Harmony.  A nose job, or a rhinoplasty procedure to improve your entire face, the choice is yours.  Because the most important face is yours.  Isn’t it nice to know that someone out there agrees?

He’s committed to education, and he makes sure that each patient is fully informed about every aspect of his or her procedure.”

Underneath the Rhinoplasty Doctor lies the Rhinoplasty Artist:

In the medical specialty called rhinoplasty, Dr. Freeman enjoys the respect of rhinoplasty surgeons all over the country.  He is considered the Top Rhinoplasty Surgeon in the Southeast.  But here is the real reason you want to choose Dr. Freeman for your rhinoplasty: he considers rhinoplasty to be the most artistic of all the procedures he performs and prides himself on providing naturally beautiful results that blend with the patient’s other facial features.  His goal in any surgery is harmony and balance. Aren’t those two words often used when describing great art?

Modern artist Matt Shlian says that, to be great, “A piece of art needs to connect.” That is exactly how Dr. Freeman approaches rhinoplasty, using his vast knowledge and training in rhinoplasty surgical skills to create a face that is harmonious, natural, and where all the many parts of the face blend to create a beautiful visage.

Federico Fellini, famous film director (La Dolce Vita), put it this way, “All art is autobiographical; the pearl is the oyster’s autobiography.”  It is not difficult to imagine Dr. Freeman looking at his patients’ faces as canvases and using his exceptional gifts to create pearls.

The Best Charlotte Rhinoplasty surgeon specializes in just that- only your face:

Rhinoplasty is a decision made with care.  The best Charlotte NC rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Freeman, is double-board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology (ENT) and the American Board of Facial and Reconstructive Surgery.  He has been a pioneer in the uses of lasers and endoscopes to lessen the negative effects of surgery. Rhinoplasty is the most popular form of cosmetic surgery

Best rhinoplasty – Charlotte NC

The most popular kind of aesthetic facial plastic surgery is rhinoplasty. Facial plastic surgeons performed more than 223,000 nose reshaping procedures in America in 2016, up from almost 218,000 in 2015. According to a study in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, only about one in thirty nose jobs ends up having to be revised, and according to the Web site Real Self, 89% of those who rated their rhinoplasties in the last two years said that they were worth it. Some people go on Instagram, Facebook or other social media platforms to document their own rhinoplasty and recovery period for their family and friends, taking selfies that show their progress as the swelling goes down over the course of several weeks or months.

Different uses and procedures for rhinoplasty

There are different procedures for operations on different parts of the nose. One of the most common reasons for rhinoplasty is to fix a deviated septum. The septum is the part of the nose that separates the nostrils. Sometimes it is crooked as a result of genes or childbirth injury, and sometimes it is from a more recent injury. In either case, a crooked nose is not only distracting to look at, but a source of breathing problems.

A nose job can also be used to get rid of the hump on your nose. This does not always require surgery. If the hump is small enough, or the rest of the nose is small enough, the surgeon may be able to get rid of it using small injections of filler that smooth the lines of the nose.

The nasal tip can be corrected, if you feel that the tip is too bulbous, or points the wrong way. This procedure is easier to go through than many other forms of rhinoplasty, and means a shorter recovery if the bone is not involved. Whatever sort of surgery you get, keep your glasses off until recovery and stay away from anyone who might have a cold or flu so you do not run the risk of sneezing.

Top Charlotte rhinoplasty in Charlotte NC – think about what you really want

When going for top Charlotte rhinoplasty in Charlotte NC, it is important to be very clear in your mind of the reasons for it — to know exactly what you want and why. A change to your face is, for good or ill, one of the biggest changes you can have done to yourself. This is the sort of judgment call for which you need input from someone else — someone who has seen a lot of different people in Charlotte, NC go through rhinoplasty.

A Charlotte rhinoplasty surgeon who has had a lot of experience can discuss the possible surgery with you and help you decide if this is the right choice for you. He or she may be able to use computer imaging to show you various possible outcomes of rhinoplasty and how they would look on your face.

Different types of Charlotte rhinoplasty

What changes you want will determine what surgery needs to be performed. A surgeon can use injections of hyaluronic acid filler to make a small change to the nose. Larger changes mean a closed rhinoplasty, in which the surgeon makes the incision inside the nostril. To make the biggest changes in the nose, a surgeon must perform an open rhinoplasty, making the incision at the base of the nose. This will mean more swelling and slower healing after the surgery.

What can go wrong

Ninety percent of those who get nose jobs are satisfied with them, and only one in thirty nose jobs needs to be redone, but those are the ones who make the news. This may not be the fault of the surgeon. Some people are pressured into cosmetic surgery by friends, lovers or family, or go in without a clear sense of what they want to get out of this. Then there are the people who get addicted to surgery, spending thousands of dollars again and again. This is usually a reflection of psychological issues that should be handled by a different sort of professional than a facial plastic surgeon.

Male rhinoplasty cost and why finding the best surgeon is important in Charlotte, NC.

There is no set cost for rhinoplasty
Male rhinoplasty cost is often the first thing Charlotte, NC patients want to know once they’ve decided to have the procedure. Unfortunately, there is no set cost, and the cost of the procedure can vary between patients.

Patients may choose to undergo rhinoplasty for many reasons
Male rhinoplasty is becoming more and more popular as the years go by. A strong profile, including a strong jaw, chin, and nose, are often seen as attractive in men, and a straight nose is a bonus. But if a patient feels they don’t have these features they may search out ways to improve their appearance, including rhinoplasty.

There are a few main reasons men, and women, may undergo rhinoplasty. The most common reason is to improve their appearance. This cosmetic procedure can help improve the look of the nose and make it smaller or bigger depending on what is needed. Patients may also have a nose job to correct issues with the nose stemming from an injury or accident. This can include straightening a crooked nose or fixing a deviated septum.

Male rhinoplasty cost can range between $5,000 and $12,000 on average
Though there is no set male rhinoplasty cost, most patients can anticipate spending between $5,000 and $12,000 on the procedure. However, some patients may pay more depending on their surgery. You should be leery of spending anything less than that as that can indicate an inexperienced surgeon or a deal that is too good to be true.

Additional costs could be incurred if you do not get the results you want, which is one reason finding an experienced surgeon is so important. If you have any complications that arise from surgery, you will be responsible for that cost as well. Any results that need corrected and require a revision rhinoplasty would lead to another cost for surgery that most patients don’t count on and may have trouble affording.

Insurance does not typically cover nose jobs for cosmetic purposes, which means the patient will need to pay the entire bill on their own. Insurance may, however, help cover male rhinoplasty cost if it is done for medical reasons such as correcting a deviated septum. It is best to check with your insurance before surgery to confirm if they will help cover the cost.

Male rhinoplasty information and why picking a skilled surgeon is important in Charlotte, NC

Male rhinoplasty is the most common type of plastic surgery for men
Male rhinoplasty can help Charlotte, NC men in a variety of ways and was the most popular type of plastic surgery for men in 2016, per the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Men may choose to undergo male rhinoplasty for many different reasons. Some may have a crooked nose from a fight or sports injury, while others may feel their nose is too big or too small and want surgery to feel more confident in their appearance. Others still may have the procedure to correct a deviated septum which can cause breathing issues and more in patients.

Before surgery patients need to be honest with their surgeon
Prior to surgery for male rhinoplasty, the doctor will have a consultation with the patient. During this consultation, the doctor will do an examination and discuss your goals with you. You should be honest with what you hope to accomplish so your doctor and you are on the same page for your surgery. Many doctors can also use different computer programs to generate an image that will show you the potential result of your surgery, so you know what to expect after surgery.

Your doctor may also make other recommendations. If they feel you won’t get the results you want with a male rhinoplasty, they may recommend a different procedure, such as a chin implant which can make your nose look different on your face without operating on it. They may also recommend additional surgeries to maintain balance in your face and help you look your best.

Picking a skilled surgeon is important
Picking an experienced, skilled surgeon to perform your surgery is important. Male’s tend to have thicker skin on their nose and may have skin that is more oily than women’s. A skilled surgeon will know the nuisances between nose shaping for men versus nose reshaping for women. They should also know the slight ways to help make a nose look more masculine if you are a man, so you don’t end up with a nose you don’t feel fits your face.

It is important to follow doctor’s orders after surgery
Following your male rhinoplasty, you should be sure to have someone who can take you home and stay with you for a few days. You should be sure to rest and elevate the head for a few days after surgery. Swelling and some bruising is normal and will fade as the weeks go on. Once the swelling has completely gone down, you’ll be able to see your new nose.

Charlotte rhinoplasty specialist

Charlotte rhinoplasty specialist- finding the very best one. Many surgeons become rhinoplasty specialists because rhinoplasty is so much in demand. Cosmetic surgeons performed more than 223,000 nose reshaping procedures in America in 2016, up from almost 218,000 in 2015. With this much demand, a facial plastic surgeon can build up a lot of experience as a rhinoplasty specialist. If you want the best chance of success for your nose job, you should look for just such a specialist. The best nose job surgeons are those that do a lot of revision rhinoplasty, improving on the work of other facial plastic surgeons.

Rhinoplasty specialist – Charlotte NC

You should especially look for a rhinoplasty specialist because in most cases, you will have to pay for the surgery yourself rather than through insurance or Medicaid. The only exception is if it is done for medical reasons. This sometimes happens, because a deviated septum can cause breathing problems and sleep apnea, which can lead to other problems in turn. But in most cases, you will have to meet the expense, which means you will want to only have to pay for it once.

Rhinoplasty for noses of different genders

Sometimes what a patient wants is for his or her nose to look either more masculine or feminine. The basic procedures of rhinoplasty are the same for both sexes, but there are some differences. Male skin tends to be a little thicker than female skin. This blunts some of the sharp angles and makes the nose appear less delicate. The bridge of a male nose tends to be straighter and more prominent than that of a female nose, and the tip is not as elevated.

But these differences are so subtle that they only appear when looking over thousands of cases. It takes an experienced rhinoplasty specialist who has worked on thousands of different faces to develop a sense of these differences. A surgeon who has acquired this much experience in noses and nose jobs can operate upon a nose in such a way that most people would say it looks more masculine or feminine, even if they cannot say why.
