Facelifts — great skill, great improvement

Facelifts mean improvement

In modern times, the facelift has become a metaphor for a rejuvenation in appearance. We speak of buildings, cars, even institutions as having undergone “facelifts.” There’s a good reason for this — even a minor facelift, with a little fat transfer, filler and microdermabrasion, can do a lot to brighten up your appearance. In fact, this may be even more effective, since it is subtler and less likely to be recognized as a facelift. But this sort of work requires greater skill and artistry on the part of the surgeon than simply pulling up skin.

The two main categories of facelift are the deep plane facelift and the deep plane minituck. In addition, many of the best facial plastic surgeons have developed specialized procedures. To decide which one is right for you, find an experienced facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte to look at your face.

Facelifts and minitucks

In a deep plane facelift, the surgeon makes an incision under the chin, repositions the skin and deeper tissues and lifts the fatty tissues in the neck area. The surgeon sometimes also shaves the backs of the submandibular glands. The swelling tends to last longer after a deep plane facelift than with other forms of facelift. You should be able to return to normal activity within two weeks, but it may be several weeks before your face looks the way you want it to. In the meantime, avoid smoking, get plenty of rest and go easy on your face. The deep plane minituck is a less intrusive procedure, used in cases where there is loose skin around the midface, neck and near the mouth, with less fat around the jowls. Recovery time is shorter than with a deep plane facelift. Fillers, injectables and abrasion can also help reduce the smaller wrinkles.

Charlotte’s most experienced facial plastic surgeon

Dr. Sean Freeman is the best facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte. He has done only facial plastic surgery since 1988 and has been certified by two different surgery boards, the American Board of Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He’s also developed and trademarked a procedure called the SignatureLift, a variation of the traditional lift which is well suited to younger patients or to those who have already had face lifts or need relatively minor work. Unlike a deep plane face lift, it can be performed under sedation rather than general anesthesia, with much less bruising and swelling and a much shorter recovery time. Most patients can return to normal activity after only a few days. If you live in or near Charlotte and are interested in a facelift, schedule your appointment or online consultation today.
