Frequently asked questions about Charlotte eye surgery and answers
Here are some frequently asked questions about Charlotte eye surgery, along with the answers.
When you say eye surgery, do you mean eyeball surgery, or eyelid surgery
Eyelid surgery. Eyeball surgery would not be performed by a facial plastic surgeon.
I’m interested in having eyelid surgery done. Is it covered by insurance or Medicaid?
Only if it’s to deal with a medical problem. An example of this would be a sagging eyelid obstructing vision because the eyelid muscles can’t open it all the way.
What’s the technical term for eyelid surgery?
The technical term is blepharoplasty.
What are the procedures for eyelid surgery?
There are different surgical procedures used for the upper and lower eyelids.
To treat sagging eyelids, the surgeon works on the upper eyelid skin and muscle (or the brow, dpending on where the problem is). To treat crow’s feet, the surgeon makes an incision on the upper eyelid, within the natural fold so that it’s hidden when healed. The surgeon then removes excess skin, muscle and fat. There is usually some swelling and bruising around the eyes for a week or so afterward. To fully treat crow’s feet, you may need to have BOTOX or laser resurfacing done along with this.
Surgery on the lower eyelid is called lower eyelid blepharoplasty. One good form of this is the SOOF lift blepharoplasty, which involves lifting the suborbicularis oculi fat, or SOOF, back into position and tightening the fascial layer to hold it in place. This treats puffiness under the eyes
