Eye lifts and the exercise question
Because eye lifts aren’t exactly cheap and cosmetic surgery isn’t usually covered by insurance or Medicaid, you may be considering an alternative. It’s often said that facial exercises can make you look three years younger — but not, for some reason, two or four years. You may be wondering if this would work as an alternative to an eye lift or similar procedures, one that would cost you no money.
Although some people may have gotten good results, this hasn’t happened often enough to produce measurable evidence. Dermatologists and experts on aging agree that skin wrinkles with age for two reasons:
Strengthening the muscles that control the eyelids would help firm up the underlying tissue, but it wouldn’t do anything to slow the aging process in the skin. Exercising the eyelids would, if anything, make the second problem slightly worse. Before going to all this trouble, you should talk with an expert who can look at the condition of your own face and tell you if it’s a good idea for you or not.
Preparing to undergo an eye lift
If you want an eye lift, it helps if you have well-recessed eyes. Make sure you don’t suffer frommedical conditions such as blurry vision, dry eye, double vision, diabetes or thyroid problems. As with any plastic surgery, if you smoke, you need to go cold turkey from several weeks before the operation to about a month afterward, and stay away from alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, anti-inflammatory drugs or certain herbal supplements for the same amount of time. Tell your surgeon about whatever medications you take. Give yourself about a week to recover, with music or books on tape handy so you can rest your eyes.
The first step in the process of getting an eye lift is to talk with an expert. Dr. Sean Freeman is Charlotte’s best facial plastic surgeon. He has practiced nothing but facial plastic surgery since 1988, including procedures on the eyelids. He’s been certified by two different surgery boards, the American Board of Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He runs a state-of-the-art facility and has made a YouTube video that explains the procedure and shows several before and after photos of his eye lift patients. If you are interested in eyelid surgery, make an appointment today, or ask for an online consultation so you can take advantage of the discount he offers on the consultation fee.
