Adults and children alike may choose to undergo ear surgery

Ear surgery cost in one of the first things Charlotte, NC residents considering ear surgery want to know. Unlike most plastic surgeries, however, children, as well as adults, may have the surgery. Parents who are planning on their child having the surgery and adults having the procedure themselves will need to save for the out of pocket expense of ear surgery.

Ear surgery is often used to correct a few different issues

Ear surgery is perhaps best known to fix protruding ears. This procedure, known as ear pinning, is just one of the things ear surgery can correct for patients.

Ear pinning is also used to correct ears that are overly large. They may not stick out a lot, but they may be overly long or even uneven, and the patient wishes to get this corrected. The procedure can also correct ear structure defects and damage that was done to the ear from injury.

There are many factors that go into determining the cost of the procedure.

There is not set ear surgery cost as many different factors go in to determining the cost. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons advises patients should anticipate spending, on average, more than $3,100.00 for the surgery alone. This fee does not include other costs such as anesthesia, surgical and recovery room charges, medications, additional appointments, and more. Your surgeon should be able to give you a quote following a consultation.

One thing patients often forget to take into consideration when planning for how much ear surgery cost is is the cost of appointments, not just the surgery. The initial consultation itself will have a cost, which is usually separate from other fees. Patients will then need pre and post operation appointments which will add to the cost as well.

Insurance usually does not cover the cost of ear surgery

Most insurance companies will not cover the ear surgery cost. Like most plastic surgeries, if the procedure is done for cosmetic reasons, such as improving your appearance, most insurance companies will not cover any of the cost. This includes any cost that stems from surgery complications.

If the procedure is done for medical reasons, however, insurance may help cover some of the cost. Medical reasons would include, but not be limited to, surgery to correct defects or surgery that repairs the hearing of the patient. All patients should be sure to contact their insurance provider before surgery to see if they will cover any of the ear surgery cost. If they do, pre authorization may be required, so it’s important to check well in advance of the surgery.

Ear surgery is used to correct a variety of issues

Ear surgery is a common procedure for children and adults in Charlotte, NC. Ear surgery is often referred to as otoplasty or ear pinning. The procedure can be done on both children and adults to correct many ear issues.

Many people have ear surgery to correct protruding ears or overly large ears. Some patients who have these features face teasing, especially school age children, or may feel self conscious about the appearance as a result. Ear surgery can help correct this by moving the ear back towards the skull. The procedure can also correct ears that have been damaged by injuries or defects in the ear structure that are genetic.

The procedure typically does not leave visible scarring

When performing an ear surgery, the doctor will generally make the incision behind the ear, when possible. This puts any scar that is left in a nonvisible spot. The surgeon will then go in through that incision and move the ears back towards the face by manipulating and sculpting the cartilage. If any additional adjustments are needed to other areas of the ear to maintain a natural look, the doctor should make that as well.

Ears, especially in men or women with shorter hair, are a prominent feature and one of the first things people see. The doctor should take care to ensure the results are natural looking and may recommend additional procedures to continue to approve facial symmetry.

Ear surgery typically has a fast recovery time

Patients who have ear surgery should be sure to take it easy the first few days after the procedure, and it is recommended they have someone stay with them at least the first night afterward. Most patients feel they can return to work and activities within a few days. However, patients will need to keep the bandage on their ears for at least five days after surgery, and not all patients feel comfortable going out with the bandage on. Removing the bandage early can damage the results, so it is important to follow the doctor’s directions carefully after the surgery.

Most insurance companies don’t cover the surgery

Many people want to know how much it will be before committing to the procedure. The average cost of ear surgery is over $3,000.00, and that doesn’t include anesthesia, room charge, and other fees. Most people will need to pay for the procedure out of pocket, but insurance may cover it if it is correcting medical issues and restoring hearing. Be sure to contact your insurance carrier to discuss the procedure before having the surgery.

Ear pinning surgery cost varies for each patient

Ear pinning surgery cost is a common concern for Charlotte, NC patients considering the procedure. Since many people will need to pay the cost out of their own pocket, patients want to know how much they will need to save before undergoing the surgery. However, as they will learn, many different factors determine the cost of the procedure, so each patient’s total will be different.

Otoplasty, or ear pinning, can treat a variety of different ear issues

Otoplasty is the medical term for ear pinning, which is a common procedure for both children and adults. The procedure is often used to move protruding ears back towards the skull, hence the term ear pinning. However, ear pinning can also correct damage done to the ear from an injury, defects in the ear structure, and overly large ears.

This cosmetic procedure is not limited to adults. Many children may have this procedure before entering school, so no teasing occurs. Children must be between five and six years of age to have the surgery, and the doctor will be able to advise if the child is a candidate following a consultation.

The cost of ear pinning includes many different factors

Ear pinning surgery cost varies as many different factors go into determining the price. One of the biggest factors is the actual procedure that is being done. If only a small amount of work needs to be done to the ear, it would be less than if multiple areas need to be reshaped. Another factor is the location of the provider, and some areas may cost more than others.

The surgery alone can cost a couple of thousand dollars. And that’s just for the surgery. The cost of anesthesia, the operating room, recovery room, and any medications given to the patient would all need to be added in. The surgeon will be able to provide an estimate following a consultation.

Most patients will need to pay the bill out of their own pocket

Since ear pinning is a usually done for cosmetic reasons, most insurance companies will not help cover ear pinning surgery cost. However, if it is done for medical reasons, such as to restore hearing to a person, insurance may chip in. All patients should contact their insurance companies before surgery to see if it is covered and get more information.

Protruding ears can lead patients to feel self conscious about their appearance

Ear pinning is a popular procedure in Charlotte, NC and around the country. Ear pinning refers to a surgery that corrects the shape and look of a person’s ears. Patients with protruding ears, or ears that stick out farther than normal from the head, may often undergo ear pinning to reshape the ear and move it closer to the skull. Patients may feel self conscious about their appearance if they have this ear issue and may even experience teasing.

Both adults and children can undergo the procedure. Many adults may have it done for the first time, or they may have a surgery corrected. Children as young as five may be able to have the procedure. In fact, some doctors recommend children having the procedure before they start school to avoid experiencing teasing.  The doctor will be able to advise if your child is a good candidate for the surgery.

Ear pinning involves moving the ear closer to the skull

When performing an ear pinning procedure, the doctor will make an incision on the back of the ear, which helps hide any scar left behind from view. The doctor then reshapes and sculpts the ear to move it back closer to the head. Then, to keep the ear looking natural, the doctor will do any reshaping that is needed on other parts of the ear. When done correctly, ear pinning should leave patients with ears moved closer to the head, but the ears should look natural as well.

It takes about four weeks for patients to fully heal

Many patients want to know about the recovery time when considering surgery as it will impact their jobs and daily life. It is recommended that patients have someone stay with them the first night or two after the procedure. Most patients feel good enough to resume activities after those two days. However, the bandage will stay on the ear for about five to seven days, and some patients feel self conscious about going out in public with the bandage and may stay in.

It is important patients follow their doctor’s post care instructions carefully. Care should be taken when removing clothing or going out not to bump the ear as it could impact the results. The ear is usually not fully healed for about four weeks after the procedure.

The cost of ear pinning varies for each patient

Patients who are considering ear pinning often want to know the cost so they can be sure they have enough money to cover the procedure. Unfortunately, there is no set cost for the procedure. It is estimated that the average cost for the surgery alone is over $3,100.00. Anesthesia, recovery room, and other fees will also need to be added into the cost. The type of procedure and location of your doctor also play a factor in determining the price.

Most people will be expected to pay this price out of pocket as most insurance plans do not cover ear pinning. If the procedure is done for medical reasons, however, insurance may help cover the cost. Be sure to speak with your insurance provider before surgery to see if any of the surgery is covered.

Cosmetic ear surgery in Charlotte NC

Unlike most forms of facial plastic surgery, which need to wait until the features of the patients are fully formed, cosmetic ear surgery can be performed on children as young as five as well as on teenagers and adults. By the age of five, the ears of small children have usually reached around 80 percent of their adult size.

The most common reason for cosmetic ear surgery is to correct ear protrusion. There are other deformities that can occur, but most of these are treated soon after birth. In order to perform cosmetic ear surgery, the surgeon makes a small cut in the back of each ear and adjusts the cartilage of the ears to make them lie closer to the head. This can be done under local or general anesthetic, but if the surgery is being performed on a small child, you should probably let them sleep through the procedure.

Recovery from cosmetic ear surgery

Once the surgery is complete, the surgeon wraps a gauze bandage around the head like a turban for about five days. This holds the ears in their new position until they have healed there. After about a week, the surgeon takes out the stitches.

For about a month after the surgery, you should avoid contact sports or any other situation that might cause an accidental blow or other injury to the ear. If a child is receiving cosmetic ear surgery, he or she should stay home from school for about a week, but an adult patient can probably return to work in several days.
