Wrinkles are something many Charlotte, NC residents will experience as they age as wrinkles are a natural sign of aging. However, many patients who have wrinkles, whether they are fine lines or deeper wrinkles, may feel self conscious about their appearance or simply wish to look younger again. Thankfully, there are a variety of treatment options available to help reduce or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles.
Surgical treatments offer longer lasting results but may have a long recovery time
Facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, and other surgical procedures can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Since these surgeries pull the skin tight to reduce sagging skin, wrinkles are often stretched out as well. Implants, like chin implants, can also reduce wrinkles as the implant stretches the skin which smooths out wrinkles as well.
Though surgeries offer long lasting, if not permanent, results, they do have a longer recovery time. Depending on the type of surgery you have, recovery can last anywhere from a week or two to a month or longer. They also usually cost more than other wrinkle treatment options since anesthesia is required.
Nonsurgical options offer short term results but a quick recovery
Some patients may not be ready to commit to surgery to reduce their wrinkles. Or, they may not feel their wrinkles are severe enough to warrant surgery. Nonsurgical procedures such as BOTOX and other injectables are an option for these people. The solution is injected into the affected muscle which will help fill the area or relax the muscle which eliminates or reduces the wrinkle.
Injections such as BOTOX offer temporary results that typically last between three and six months. Some patients, however, have reported results lasting longer after repeated injections. The cost of injections are usually lower than surgery, but it is important to keep in mind that additional treatments will be required to maintain the results.
A combination of surgical and nonsurgical treatments may be the best option
At your consultation, your doctor will examine you and your skin to determine what the best treatment option for you is. They may recommend one procedure or multiple, and may even suggest a combination of surgery and fillers to give you the best results possible. Be sure to be open with your goals so the doctor can determine the best way to help you achieve them.
