A nose job for a new look this year
A nose job is a more effective — and in all likelihood more lasting — way to change your appearance for the new year than losing a few pounds. The nose is in the center of the face. You can wear sunglasses over your eyes, you can grow a beard, but your nose is just about impossible to hide. If you’re not satisfied with how it looks, you’re not satisfied with how you look. This is why rhinoplasty is the second most popular form of facial plastic surgery, after eyelid surgery.
There are a number of different reasons why somebody in Charlotte, NC might want a nose job. One of the most common reasons is to reduce a hump on the bridge of the nose or straighten a deviated septum. The septum is the part of the nose between the nostrils, and what we think of as a broken nose is actually a damaged septum. Some people just want the tip of their nose to be altered, or to have their nostrils adjusted. This last requires an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon to make sure the nostrils retain their symmetry.
The method of the nose job
The surgeon has to adjust the bone and cartilage under the skin to give the nose its new shape. He or she usually puts the incisions inside the nostrils to make sure there are no obvious surgical scars. This is called a closed rhinoplasty. In some cases, the surgeon has to make an incision in the skin covering the nose. This is called an open rhinoplasty, and the incision is usually made in the skin between the nostrils. The skin on men’s noses is generally slightly thicker, and the shape of the nose less refined.
There’s probably going to be some swelling and a certain amount of bruising when the surgery is over. There may also be some numbness of the skin. All of these effects go away before too long. The bruising fades within a week to ten days, while the swelling may last several weeks. To get an idea of what the long-term results should look like, check the before and after rhinoplasty photographs on the surgeon’s Web site.
