All about blepharoplasty

Today, we’re going to learn all about blepharoplasty — or as much as we can in such a short post. (It’s a bigger subject than you might think.) The idea is to help you decide if blepharoplasty is right for you.

To begin with, blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery. There are a number of different procedures, some for the lower eyelid and some for the upper. In addition, sometimes a brow lift can improve the appearance and function of the upper eyelids. If an upper eyelid lift is called for, it’s usually done by making a cut along the natural fold of the upper eyelid, then getting rid of excess skin, fat and muscle. For obvious reasons, this is usually done under general anesthesia. On average, most patients have fully recovered in about two weeks.

In the case of the lower eyelid, blepharoplasty is a way of treating the sagging under the eyes that happens when the suborbicularis oculi fat (or SOOF) migrates downward with age. This can be either removed entirely or (somewhat more effectively) restored to its original position with a SOOF lift.

Blepharoplasty isn’t a good idea for those who have blurry vision, dry eye, double vision, diabetes or thyroid problems. There are other treatments, such as fillers, lasers and BOTOX,

that can help you in that case. These treatments can also be used to supplement blepharoplasty.

That’s all about blepharoplasty that we have room for here.
