Rhinoplasty surgery information for Charlotte, NC residents

Rhinoplasty surgery is a common cosmetic procedure

Rhinoplasty surgery is probably most commonly known as a nose job, and is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the United States. In 2016 over 223,000 rhinoplasty procedures were preformed, an increase over the amount performed in 2015. However, not all rhinoplasty surgeries are done for cosmetic reasons, and the procedure can also be done for medical reasons as well.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery can increase patient’s self esteem.

Many nose jobs are done for cosmetic reasons. The nose plays a big role in determining how a person’s face looks, and if a person perceives a flaw in theirs, or just does not like the way it looks, it can cause self-esteem issues. Rhinoplasty can be done to correct bumps on the bridge of the nose, reduce the size or shape of the tip of the nose, and even change the size of the nostrils.

Rhinoplasty can also be done to correct medical issues. Many people who have previously broken their nose, or have a crooked nose, may suffer from a deviated septum that needs to be corrected. A deviated septum can cause headaches, nosebleeds, and breathing problems such as sleep apnea. An experienced rhinoplasty surgeon can often fix this, improving the patient’s quality of life.

No matter the reason a patient chooses to have a nose job for, if the result is what they were hoping for, rhinoplasty can make a positive impact in a person’s life. From improving the breathing of some patients to giving others more self-confidence, experienced surgeons strive to give patients the best result.

Rhinoplasty surgery is typically minimally invasive

To change the shape of the nose, nose surgeons manipulate the cartilage and bone in the nose to achieve the desired results. Most procedures are considered closed rhinoplasties, which means the incisions are made inside the nose. Some procedures, however, require an open rhinoplasty. In an open rhinoplasty, the incision is made in the in the skin between the nostrils.

Recovery is typically pretty quick

Of course, each person’s recovery will differ depending on the exact procedure done and the person. Most patients return to normal activities in about a week. Bruising and swelling of the nose and face will occur immediately following surgery. Bruising should fade within a week or so with the swelling going down completely within a month.

Patients should avoid blowing their nose following surgery and keep their head elevated. The surgeon should give aftercare instructions following the procedure.
