Answers to your eyelid surgery questions
How do I know if I need an eye lift?
You’ll have to ask your a facial plastic surgeon to be sure. Very small wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, can sometimes be treated with BOTOX, filler injections or laser resurfacing, especially in their early stages. What appears to be a sagging upper eyelid might really be a sagging brow pressing down on the eyelids. As you age, the skin on your forehead gradually sags down and slightly to the center, and sometimes pushes its way into the space of the upper eyelids. If this is happening to you, what you need is not an upper eyelid lift, but an endoscopic brow lift.
Is there any reason why eyelid surgery might be a bad idea?
If you’re not in good health, or if you suffer from blurry vision, dry eye, double vision, diabetes or thyroid problems, you shouldn’t undergo eyelid surgery.
What’s the best way to prepare for eyelid surgery?
As with any plastic surgery, if you smoke, you should stop before undergoing it. Don’t take aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs before the surgery.
How do I manage the recovery?
Keeping your head elevated while resting will speed recovery time. Cold packs may also help. Be sure to take any medication your surgeon prescribes, so as to reduce the risk of infection and encourage the healing process. Keep your eyes out of the sun — if you have to go outside on sunny days, use sunglasses.
