Eye lifts recommended in some cases

What an eye lift is

An eye lift, or upper eyelid blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic medical procedure that reverses some of the effects of aging and creates a naturally youthful, wide-awake and energetic look for the face. By removing a very small amount of skin and tissue, it lifts and smoothes the eyelids while still allowing them to perform their crucial job of protecting the eyes.

Be sure to talk to the most experienced facial plastic surgeon you can find to determine if you should get an eye lift. If you have some medical problems, such as blurry vision, dry eye, double vision, diabetes or thyroid problems, an eye lift may not be advisable. And not everyone in Charlotte who appears to need an eye lift does. In some cases, what appears to be a drooping of the upper eyelid may be caused by sagging skin on the brow. An experienced facial plastic surgeon can determine if this is the case, and can also perform a brow lift to correct the problem.

The surgery and the aftermath

Eye lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. You will be unconscious for the procedure and will need someone to drive you home afterward since the anesthesia will take several hours to wear off. The surgery is performed by making an incision along the natural fold of the upper eyelid. This is done so that the normal contour of the eye will hide the incision. Excess skin, fat and muscle are removed. Sometimes an eye lift is performed alongside a brow lift, lower lid surgery, injectables, laser skin resurfacing or other facial plastic surgery.

After the surgery, there will be some mild swelling. For some people, this will go away in the first week, while for others it will take several weeks. There may also be some itchiness and dryness, which will also go away. Within five days, stitches will dissolve or be removed. Bruising should disappear in seven to 10 days, and can safely be hidden by makeup during that time. Ask your doctor about any post-operative concerns you may have during your initial consultation.
