No two brow lifts are alike

Brow lifts vary from patient to patient

The brow lift is a common form of plastic surgery. The skin on your forehead loses elasticity with age and gradually sags downward, and the frequent actions of forehead muscles form deep grooves in the skin. But it is more than a simple downward slide — the skin also moves a little to the center. It takes a skilled facial plastic surgeon, who knows the directions in which skin migrates on the forehead with age, to draw it back into place in the right way to recapture the appearance of youth. The thickness of the skin and the patterns of sagging and wrinkling that appear on every forehead are slightly different. Because of this, any attempt to reverse these patterns must be individually tailored to the face in question. Slightly different procedures can be used for men and women to preserve the masculinity or femininity of the face, if the patient wishes.

In some cases, a brow lift is an answer even when it appears that the greatest signs of aging are around the eyelid. If the skin of the brow has migrated into the space of the upper eyelid, reversing this can restore some of the appearance of youth to the eyes. A browlift may also be combined with other forms of facial plastic surgery to create an overall younger appearance.

Endoscopic brow lift

The best way to perform a browlift in modern medicine is to do an endoscopic brow lift. What that means is that a tiny light and camera at the end of a slender tube are inserted under the skin of the brow through small incisions. This allows the surgeon to see the structure of the forehead and the positioning and attachment of facial muscles, and thereby gain a better sense of where and how to do the work.

After the surgery, pain medication will be needed for one to two days. Swelling and bruising should be gone in no more than two weeks.
