A brow lift: is it for you?

Is a brow lift the right choice for you?

A brow lift is also called a forehead lift or an endobrow lift and is a facial plastic surgical procedure that targets the sagging skin on the forehead, eyebrows, and upper eyelids.  Many people, especially women ask for a browlift to help reverse the signs of aging.  The procedure is typically performed on individuals over age 40, but may be done on adult patients of any age.  As our bodies age, our skin loses some of its resilience and elasticity.  When this is combined with years of exposure to environmental impacts, we may develop droopy skin and deep wrinkles.  A brow lift will help minimize forehead creases and reduce droopy eyebrows, furrowed brow lines, and hooding over the eyes.  Charlotte’s best facial plastic surgeon, Dr. M. Sean Freeman can advise you on whether or not a browlift is right for you.

The brow lift procedure

A browlift is usually done as an outpatient procedure.  In Charlotte NC, Dr. Freeman performs browlift surgery at his state-of-the-art clinic.  The procedure is typically done under local anesthetic, however, general anesthesia is always an option for those who prefer it.  Dr. Freeman will meet with the patient to discuss the procedure.  During this consultation appointment, Dr. Freeman will evaluate the patient’s skin and facial structure to determine if a browlift is the most appropriate procedure.  Dr. Freeman often finds that an endoscopic brow lift is a better option, especially if a patient has sagging eyebrows which are causing the appearance of aging.   Dr. Freeman will make his recommendation on the best facial plastic surgery based on the amount of excess upper eyelid skin, the position of the eyebrows, and the height of the hairline.

During an endoscopic brow lift, Dr. Freeman uses an endoscope which is a long, thin tube with a camera on the end.  Dr. Freeman makes several small incisions and then inserts the endoscope to provide a good view of the internal structure of the forehead.  There are several reasons why Dr. Freeman prefers the endoscopic brow lift. These include less scarring from the incisions, a total return of sensation to the surgery site, and a longer-lasting, more natural result.   Dr. Freeman developed an innovative approach to brow lift in women which provides a more natural result.  Dr. Freeman calls this approach segmental.  He will do a lateral brow lift, a ¾ browlift or a full browlift depending upon the individual situation.

There are usually no complications from an endoscopic brow lift, although there may occasionally be some itching or numbness for a time following surgery.  Dr. Freeman will prescribe pain medication for 24 to 48 hours and any swelling or bruising will disappear within 10 to 14 days.  Call Dr. M.
