Botox and other injectables are used for a variety of cosmetic purposes, including reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars, as well as plumped lips and cheeks, and rejuvenated hands. Your Charlotte, NC cosmetic specialist is an expert in such injectables, including Botox, Radiesse, Restylane, Juvederm, Sculptra, Silicone, and CosmoPlast. These fillers offer a non-surgical way to provide a youthful, vibrant appearance.
Botox decreases the visibility of facial wrinkles and lines by relaxing the muscles underneath. The more you use these muscles, the deeper your lines will be, particularly laugh lines and frown lines. Botox has been used successfully as a cosmetic injectable since the 1990s.
The most popular injectable fillers are Juvederm, Radiesse, and Restylane. Radiesse is a gel comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite. It can be used for a liquid facelift, lip filler, or to smooth the skin on the hands. Results from Radiesse last 18 to 24 months, do not cause much inflammation, and do not require allergy testing. Restylane is a gel made of biodegradable non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid. Results last for six to eight months, and you do not need to be allergy tested. Perlane is an injectable that is very similar in composition to Restylane, but can be injected deeper into the dermis. Lastly, Juvederm, which is used on lips, lines, and wrinkles, lasts for up to one year, while Juvederm Voluma, which is used to plump up cheeks, last for up to two years.
Sculptra, Silicone, and CosmoPlast
The fillers Sculptra, Silicone, and CosmoPlast are less common injectables. Unlike the other fillers, Sculptra actually stimulates collagen growth. Although it takes multiple injections, and results are slow to notice, this is a longer lasting option overall. Silicone is a great choice for anyone with scars caused by acne or accidents. Unlike the other fillers, results from Silicone are permanent. Lastly, CosmoPlast, which comes from purified human collagen, is used on fine lines.
Botox and other fillers are injected in-office, meaning a hospital or surgical center is not needed, nor is general anesthesia. During the procedure for Botox, it is injected into your muscles, deactivating them. This process is fast and pain free. The smoothing out of lines and wrinkles can take a few days to notice, but results last for up to three to six months, after which your surgeon will see you for a follow-up injection. The more injections you have over time, the longer the results of each may last. Most people are candidates for these fillers, with the exception of individuals who are pregnant, have a neurological disease, or are breastfeeding.
